The alleged gang members – aged from 18 to 38 who are believed to be involved in organised crimes – arrived at the court complex in two police trucks amidst heavy police security at 8.45am here Friday (Aug 16).
Eighteen of them were charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code for their alleged participation in the criminal organisation., while, the 19th man, Mohamad Yusuf Mat Nasir, was charged under Section 130W of the Penal Code for allegedly assisting the gang members at Warta Lama Pasar Borong Selayang between Dec 22 and Dec 23, 2017.
No plea was recorded as the charges were under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
Judge Syafeera Mohd Said fixed Oct 9 for mention.
The gang, which was formed in 2013, was headed by its ring leader who goes by the nickname of “Emi Keju”.
The 32-year-old was arrested in June. He was a former student of Henry Gurney School, a juvenile detention centre in Melaka.
The gang has more than 25 members which includes Emi Keju’s three younger brothers and his close friends..
Federal CID director Datuk Huzir Mohamed reportedly said the gang evolved from a small-time armed robbery gang using machetes to target individuals to possessing firearms to rob goldsmith shops in supermarkets and cash-laden security vans.
He said to date, the gang was believed to have committed more than 50 armed robberies with loot estimated to be over RM4mil.
